Cardboard Challenge |
Jan 16, 2025 |
On Thursday, January 16th, our students will have the exciting opportunity to participate in a Cardboard Challenge! This activity encourages creativity, problem-solving, and innovation as students use their imaginations to build something extraordinary out of cardboard. To inspire our students, we’ve attached a link to a short video titled Caine’s Arcade. It tells the story of a young inventor whose creativity and entrepreneurial spirit have inspired countless others. We hope you’ll take a moment to watch it with your child! As we gear up for this event, we kindly ask families to bring holiday boxes and other cardboard materials for your child to bring to school in the new year. These materials will play a key role in helping them bring their ideas to life! Thank you for your support, and we look forward to seeing all the incredible creations our students will build! |

ScreenAgers screening - Film #1 |
5:30pm |
Laronde Library |
Dear Laronde Families, We are excited to host an evening screening of the newly updated film, Screenagers: Growing up in the Digital Age, on Wednesday, January 29th @ 5:30pm in the Laronde library. The film has a run time of 60 minutes and all Laronde parents/caregivers are invited to come. While in the past, we have invited grade 6 and 7 students to join, we kindly request for this screening to be attended by adults only. Award-winning and thought-provoking, the film is now more relevant than ever with its recent update for 2025. This new version of the film features fresh insights, including from Jonathan Haidt, author of The Anxious Generation, and several others. The update also includes the latest scientific findings on the effects of video gaming, sleep, social media, and the use of phones and smartwatches in schools — and much more. We've also streamlined the content by removing some elements that no longer resonate. Most importantly, the film has more solutions than ever. Watch the trailer here: This updated Screenagers — focused on tweens and teens — is not to be confused with the film we screened in December, Screenagers Elementary School Age Edition. Attached you will find the parent handout from the December screening as well as this upcoming screening. Click here to listen to the podcast featuring, Jonathan Haidt, PhD, the author of the best selling book, The Anxious Generation. Save the date for our future evening screenings: February 12th @5:30pm - Film #2, Screenager the Next Chapter on February 26 @5:30 pm - Film #3, Screenagers Under the Influence on We look forward to seeing some new faces that haven't had the opportunity to see the previous screenings. This will be the last set of screenings offered to our parent community. Hope to see you there! |
